June 1950 to December 1953 – Historical Details

The 85-page document available to view online, or download, includes historical details starting at the Calvert’s call back into service at the beginning of the Korean War through to the end of December, 1953.

Highlights for this period include:

  • Calvert called out the mothball fleet in August of 1950 and recommissioning in October 1950 in Norfolk, VA
  • Voyage from Norfolk to the West Coast in early 1951
  • “First” Far East Cruise – April 1951 to August 1951
  • Second Far East Cruise – October 1952 to April 1953
  • Third Far East Cruise – August 1953 to September 1953
  • Drydock and training – September 1953 to December 1953

    Thanks for this article’ I was one of the GI’s transported home from Korea on Her Sept 1953. What a wonderful trip!!! Going home!!! Many thanks to that crew!!!
